Tesselaar Potted Tulips

Thank you for purchasing tulips from the Tesselaar Tulip Festival. We are sure they will be happy in their new home!

Watering Tulip Pots

Keeping them moist helps the flowers last longer and your bulbs stay healthy.Water your pots regularly, potting mix is designed for perfect drainage, so it doesn't hold water. In warm weather we recommend watering daily. To test if it is needed, simply put your finger into the pot, if it comes out dry then you know you need to water - easy!

Caring For Tulip Pots

The bulbs can happily stay in their current pot, you just need to water them. You could also put their black pot into a larger, decorative pot. Or plant the pot straight into your garden. You can keep the pots indoors or out, home heating may shorten their blooms though. Don't forget you will need to keep watering them.

Caring For Tulip Bulbs

If you would like to keep your bulbs for next year, it is ideal to add some fertiliser. Do this now, any general purpose slow release or liquid fertiliser is good. This will feed the bulb so it can produce another flower. Ensure you keep them watered until the leaves begin to yellow, then lift and store them somewhere cool or put the pot out of the weather until next autumn. We recommend planting them in the ground around Mother's Day. See here for more details.

Tulip Bulb Life Cycle

  1. DORMANCY - December to May. 2. PLANTING - Plant your tulips April to May. 3. PRE-BLOOM - The foliage begins to shoot in August. Now is an ideal time to to fertilise. 4. BLOOM TIME - Early September to mid October. 5. POST BLOOM - October to November. The bulb has finished flowering and is preparing for dormancy. Add some fertiliser for nice big flowers next season.
